Bullied Bus Monitor to Get Over $400,000!

21 Jun

This is not an LGBT-specific story, but I can’t help but share it.

By now, more than 2 million of you have viewed the crazy viral youtube video, Making the Bus Monitor Cry. If you haven’t seen this horrific video, you can watch it here:

While this isn’t an LGBT-specific story, bullying is. What 78 year-old Karen Klein endured on this bus was probably nothing new for her that day. This just happened to be the time it was recorded. One could easily focus on the severe lack of respect kids today have for adults. But judging from the hundreds of LGBT teen suicides in recent years, kids don’t save their ugliness for their elders. They are undiscriminating in their cruel treatment of others.

Happily, someone started an online fundraising campaign to send Karen on a vacation. Their goal of $5,000 was quickly surpassed, and it seems Karen may not have to work for a couple years since they’ve now raised nearly $400,000.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we can do the same for kids like Kardin Ulysse? He was bullied and partially blinded. Dennis Walcott, the Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education here in New York City, is downplaying the incident and no one here seems to give a damn because they’re all too busy at the clubs getting drunk from it being Pride Week.

OMG, those young boys used the word “SLUT”… What’s wrong with these boys? The parents should be punishing these boys BIG TIME! If they were my sons, they would be apolozing to her face NOT just the Parents!!

Wow I can’t even believe how cruel these kids are. It scares me because I have a son starting school this year. I am enrolling him in martial arts though so I’m sure there will be a bully or two that will try him for that reason. This pour woman. This is just ridiculous. I hope the parents of these kids are ashamed

I don’t think that bullying has necessarily gotten worse, I think that with the advent of social networking and online media sites like facebook.com and youtube.com the kids learn that they get attention for the shocking things they post. This leads to less discrimination of right and wrong because their risk vs, reward systems are screwed up. Parent need to take responsibility for the things their kids do, and prevent them.

If you give a kid enough rope they will hang themselves with it. 13 year old children can not handle social networking, and should not have profiles. Parents need to grow a pair and tell their children NO!
