Obama Orders Flags to Half-Staff for Sikh Shooting Victims

6 Aug

A few weeks ago, following the horrific shooting in a Colorado movie theatre, President Obama ordered all flags at federal buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of those lost.

Last night as I was reading the coverage of another massacre, this time at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, I wondered if the same honor would be shown these six religious worshippers who were gunned down by a neo-nazi.

There are many problems and inequalities in this country which we try to make people aware of on this blog. From the “Ground Zero Mosque,” which was neither a mosque, nor located at Ground Zero to the shooting yesterday, it seems almost acceptable to many in this country to discriminate against those from Middle Eastern countries. While Sikhism is not the same as Muslim, to bigots – there is no difference.

I reached out to a friend at the White House today to find out if the same honor would be given the victims of yesterday’s crime. I’m quite happy to report that indeed, President Obama will offer the same honor and remembrance to yesterday’s victims as was given to the victims of the Aurora shooting.

It’s good to have a President, who not only values life, but is willing to speak up equally for those of all different backgrounds, religions, genders and sexualities.

I’m happy about that. I know that someo people won’t be because they believe that flags are only for soldiers. The flag is for everyone in the country and should be used to commemorate people and remember tradegdies.

      To stir up some controversy:

“While Sikhism is not the same as Muslim, to bigots – there is no difference.”

Let’s not forget to mention government discrimination against Dan Cathy for Christian religious beliefs. There are bigots all around. I forget who said it, but I recently read something to the effect of “We all have a little bigot inside of us. Maturity means recognizing it and aiming to minimize its effect on our decision making.”

I say this because I feel like charges of “bigotry” and the like are cast predominately in one general direction (usually toward straight white Christian American males) without any concrete evidence that they are more prejudiced than any other group (at least none that I’ve come across).

Firstly, please…again…provide one piece of evidence that Dan Cathy has been discriminated against by the government. I’m not talking about threats or words, I want proof that this has happened. Ever.

I am willing to bet that for every instance of *ACTUAL* bigotry against a straight white christian guy, I will give you at least 10 in the other direction. If these instances truly exist (where straight white christian men have ACTUALLY LEGALLY been discriminated against), according to your claims, they shouldn’t be too hard to find. And I will give you 10 instances (at least) of discrimination in the other direction. You’re reply is utter bullshit.

I live in Canada the resturaunt chain would be out of business because we don’t support the rights of someone to support a group which openly denies another group their civil rights. We banned the WBC for God’s sake- the US doesn’t even do that!
